These two sculptures were intended to be individual studies but, after placing them together, they acquired an unsettling disparity. As with the other sculptures there is little context offered to gain a deeper understanding of the characters; it is only through their physical and emotional states that you can posit their differences.
One could assume that both girls, perhaps of a similar age, have had very dissimilar experiences, environments and opportunities to have reached such drastic and opposite states of mind. Together they highlight planes of division within our society. Two girls – here next to each other - yet worlds apart.
